Dr. PeterChris Okpala is highly self-motivated, and passionate in his desire to expand student learning and experience. Each day that he teaches, he is inspired by the thought that he helps his students take their first steps towards their chosen professions. His teaching philosophy has two main components. First, as a teacher, he requires reflection and action among his students. Through this process, he inculcates the practice of contemplation among his students, upon the things that they have learned in class. Part of this reflective process is taking active steps to apply what they have learned to their daily lives, thereby allowing their learning to come full circle. The second component of his teaching philosophy is linking learning to things that his students value. Hence, in most of his classes, he strives to attain a level of student engage that allows him to discern the things that they value in life. It is only when learning is linked to things that they value do students fully immerse themselves in classroom activities, and attain high levels of motivation to succeed in their academic endeavors.
